Welcome to our online store!
Did you know that it can take up to 100 years of tumbling around in the ocean for a piece of glass to become sea glass? Most of the older sea glass came from people throwing their garbage, including glassware, porcelain, etc. into the sea. Gloucester also had numerous shipwrecks over the years which added to the treasures to be found.
When we find a piece of sea glass, we wonder what was it originally. Part of a bottle, plate, glass, knick knack or other? We'll never know, but we'll will turn that piece of glass into a beautiful treasure.
BeLo the Sea Treasures are made by Bev and Loie. (The name "BeLo" is "Be" for Bev and "Lo" for Loie - get it?) Bev is the sea glass hunter and makes the gifts. Loie creates the jewelry and manages the business.
Bev has been collecting sea glass for over 12 years. In that time, the amount and color variations have dramatically decreased, due to the popularity of sea glass and the fact that it's not a renewable resource. That means that sea glass is getting more valuable all the time.
Loie has always made and sold products, including embroidered apparel, handbags, totes, pillows made from antique handkerchiefs and most recently, fabric face masks. As Bev's collection grew, Loie kept asking her what she was going to do with all of it. Turns out that Bev just likes to collect and sort. Loie, ever the creative entrepreneur, decided to teach herself how to make wire wrapped jewelry and BeLo The Sea Treasures was born. (Note that Loie used to call Bev a hoarder but now she calls her the supplier, haha!)
After Loie honed her skill, we began to sell at juried craft shows, stores and galleries. We normally do about 12 shows a year from May-December. Aside from our website, our jewelry is currently available at A Pleasant Shoppe in Newburyport, MA, A Pleasant Shoppe in Portsmouth, NH, and The Village Studio in North Andover.
